LASsie (Light Application Security) is a Microsoft Access Add-On that enhances your Access application with a simplified user security system. Intended as an alternative to Access' User-Level Security (which is deprecated in .accdb file formats), LASsie offers a less complicated way to secure forms, reports, controls and certain records from unauthorized user access. With LASsie, you can prevent a user from opening specific forms or reports, restrict their ability to update data on a form, disable certain controls, filter records, and perform custom security functions, all based on the user's sign on/user name.

LASsie includes a friendly user sign-on form that prompts for a login user name and password. Users can change their own passwords via the included 'change password' form. Optionally, the sign-on form can be bypassed and the user's Windows login user name can be used. Once the user name is verified, the security groups that the user belongs to are loaded. Based on permissions/restrictions assigned to these groups, LASsie determines which forms or reports can be accessed, if data updates are allowed, and more.

LASsie is called 'light' application security because it is not intended to be a robust, high-end security application. In fact, a sophisticated user could edit the underlying tables and change their own security level. By hiding the LASsie tables, and/or linking to them in an external, encrypted database, you could minimize the possibility of such potential breaches, but you should understand that we do not guarantee that such a breach will never occur. That being said, LASsie can serve quite well as an application security system where users are relatively unsophisticated, or where application data is not of a highly classified nature.

This document is a legal agreement between you ("end user") and Peter's Software ("Peter's Software"). By downloading, purchasing and / or using this software you are agreeing to be bound by the terms of this agreement. If you do not agree to the terms of this agreement, which includes the agreement in full, and the license, promptly return the software and all accompanying items to Peter's Software.

GRANT OF LICENSE
Peter's Software grants the end user the following rights which depend on the version of LASsie registered and / or downloaded:

LASsie demo version
- You may use this demo program on any number of computers inside or outside of your company.
- You may include this demo program on any CD compilation.
- You may not sell this demo program.
- You must disclose that this is a demo and that the registered product is not free.

LASsie (single application license with source code):
- can be used for software development on any number of computers within your own company.
- can be incorporated into one application that you develop for distribution within your company.

LASsie (unlimited, royalty free distribution license with source code):
- can be used for software development on any number of computers within your own company.
- can be incorporated into any number of applications that you develop for distribution inside or outside of your company.

You may make a backup copy of LASsie that is to be used as a backup only.

COPYRIGHT
The software is owned by Peter's Software and is protected by United States copyright laws and international treaty provisions. Therefore, you must treat the software like any other copyrighted material (e.g., a book or musical recording) except that you may make copies of the software for backup or archival purposes or transfer the software to a single hard disk provided you keep the original solely for backup or archival purposes only. You may not copy the written materials accompanying the software.

OTHER RESTRICTIONS
You may not rent or lease the software. You may not transfer the software. You may not reverse engineer or create a derivative from the software.

SOURCE CODE
If you purchase LASsie with source code, you will adhere to the same terms and conditions of this agreement, which includes the agreement in full, and the license, for the source code. In addition, you agree that source code will not be resold as a stand alone product in direct or indirect competition of the software.

REVOCATION
You also agree that this software and license will remain the sole property of Peter's Software at all times. Peter's Software reserves the right to revoke this license at any time and at its sole discretion. Upon revocation, the end user agrees to surrender all software and source code immediately retaining no copies of such.
