PNetMon is a personal network monitor that doesn't require a degree in IT to use. PNetMon enables you to see all network connections made by software on your PC in a compact and easy to read format.

Is PNetMon a security tool? It's getting there! The latest version of PNetMon will not only alert you to communications with a blacklisted host(*), it will also optionally add rules to Windows Firewall to block communications with that host. This new 'auto block' feature is now available in the latest version.

Today's malware has become increasingly sophisticated. Once it gets past your primary defenses it will often hide it's presence so it can remain on your PC to do its evil deeds for as long as possible. PNetMon is not meant to replace your existing defenses, but it could serve as a safety net if those defenses fail you. And now with the addition of blacklisted host alerts and auto-block PNetMon has become an even better safety net.

PNetMon consists of two components -- a service that runs in the background collecting your PC's network activity and a client program that you run whenever you want to see activity. This design serves two purposes -- first, it eliminates the need for the client program to have Admin privileges and second, it allows PNetMon to maintain a running list of activity even if you forget to run the client program.

PNetMon does not see other activity on the network unless your PC is involved. PNetMon examines only headers of network packets going in and out of your PC. It does not access the data portion of those packets. Furthermore, information on connections to remote hosts is kept for only short periods of time.

PNetMon does not invade your computer with special drivers and other components that can destabilize your PC. It uses standard Windows API calls to gather its information. The PNetMon service is written in C++ for maximum performance. The client program is written in C#.

1. LICENSE GRANT: The Beta release of the SOFTWARE is freeware. Users are encouraged, though not required, to register with WDPS Software to participate in the Beta program.

2. TRANSFER OF DISTRIBUTION. You may share the distribution with others for their evaluation provided that you do not modify the distribution in any way and provided that you do not charge a fee of any kind for said distribution.

3. OWNERSHIP. You acknowledge that WDPS Software owns all right, title and interest in and to the SOFTWARE, including without limitation all Intellectual Property Rights. You acknowledge that no title to the intellectual property in the SOFTWARE is transferred to you. Your license confers no title or ownership in the SOFTWARE and should not be construed as a sale of any right in the SOFTWARE.

4. COPYRIGHT AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS. The SOFTWARE is protected by United States copyright law and international treaty provisions. You agree that any copies of the SOFTWARE will contain the same proprietary notices which appear on and in the SOFTWARE.

5. REVERSE ENGINEERING. You agree that you will not attempt to reverse compile, modify, translate, prepare derivative works from, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive source code from the SOFTWARE in whole or in part.

6. NO OTHER WARRANTIES. WDPS Software DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE IS ERROR FREE. WDPS Software DISCLAIMS ALL OTHER WARRANTIES WITH RESPECT TO THE SOFTWARE, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY RIGHTS. 8. NO LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. You agree that your installation and use of the SOFTWARE is at your own risk. IN NO EVENT SHALL WDPS Software OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE TO YOU OR ANY OTHER PARTY FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR INDIRECT DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING OUT OF THE DELIVERY, PERFORMANCE OR USE OF THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF WDPS Software HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT WILL WDPS Software' LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT OR ANY OTHER THEORY OF LIABILITY, EXCEED THE LICENSE FEE PAID BY YOU.

9. GOVERNING LAW. This license will be governed by the laws of the State of Pennsylvania, USA. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods is specifically disclaimed.

10. ENTIRE AGREEMENT. This is the entire agreement between you and WDPS Software which supersedes any prior agreement or understanding, whether written or oral, relating to the subject matter of this license.
